A practice shaped by conviction

E. Chandler Russell, known to her clients and friends as Channy, is a Santa Barbara-based family-law attorney and litigator whose Christian faith is the source of both her compassion and her resolve. Her faith is not a slogan, an ornament, or something she conceals when it becomes inconvenient. It is the foundation of her courage, the measure of her integrity, and the source of her conviction that truth must be brought into the light, the vulnerable must be protected, and wrongdoing must be answered with justice.

Channy has devoted her practice to confronting corruption, greed, exploitation, coercion, and abuses of power—especially when they threaten children, families, or individuals already carrying more than they should ever have been asked to bear. She practices with mercy toward those seeking refuge and redemption, disciplined judgment toward those seeking resolution and peace, and relentless resolve toward those who use deception, intimidation, or oppression as instruments of control.

She does not manufacture conflict, but neither does she retreat from it. When peace is possible, she pursues it with wisdom and grace. When peace is weaponized to demand surrender, she exposes what others would prefer to keep hidden and pursues accountability without fear.

Channy represents individuals confronting some of life’s most consequential battles: the protection, safety, and happiness of their children; the preservation of their financial security; and the recovery of their freedom and dignity. She understands that a family-law case is never merely a collection of pleadings, financial records, or court dates, but reflects a human life in transition, often unfolding under enormous emotional, financial, and psychological pressure. The advocate she once needed

Family law is not abstract to Channy. She came of age in the midst of her own parents’ painful, high-conflict divorce and later found herself in the trenches of custody disputes as a mother, before she became an attorney, carrying much of that burden without the legal protection and guidance she needed. She knows what it is to enter a legal system already exhausted, to fight for a child under extraordinary pressure, and to search for an advocate capable of understanding both the legal case and the human life inside it.

During those years, Channy imagined the lawyer she wished had been standing beside her: an attorney who would listen without judgment, recognize danger without minimizing it, distinguish truth from manipulation, master the nuances and details, empathize with her emotions and fears, speak with moral clarity, and refuse to disappear when her case became difficult. She founded her practice determined to become that lawyer for others—the advocate she once needed, the counsel she would entrust with her own child, and the person she would want beside her on the hardest days of her life.

Those experiences have made the safety, stability, and happiness of children central to Channy’s work. She believes children must never be conscripted into adult conflict as messengers, witnesses, allies, bargaining chips, pawns, or instruments of punishment and revenge. A resolution is not successful merely because the adults have stopped litigating if their child remains frightened, destabilized, unheard, or exposed to continuing harm. Channy evaluates every strategy not only by what it may accomplish in court, but by what it will require human beings to endure.

She believes that fiercely protecting children is both a legal obligation and a responsibility to the future. The way a society permits its children to be treated shapes the adults they will become, the families they will later build, and the world the next generation will inherit. For Channy, shielding children from avoidable conflict while responding decisively to genuine danger is not secondary to the case, but is among the highest purposes the law can serve.

Her lived experience deepens her empathy, but it does not replace disciplined judgment. Channy does not project her own history onto her clients or assume that every family’s circumstances are the same. She listens, investigates, and evaluates. She tests allegations against evidence. She understands both the devastating consequences of failing to protect a mother, father, or child and the grave injustice caused by accusations that are exaggerated, weaponized, or untrue. To her, protection and proof are equally sacred responsibilities.

Education and global perspective

Channy earned her law degree with honors from Boston University School of Law, where she also pursued interdisciplinary graduate study through Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and was selected as a Freeman Fellow. Her academic work encompassed international relations, conflict resolution, African studies, and Sharia law—fields that trained her to understand how power operates across legal systems, cultures, institutions, and deeply rooted human conflicts.

Before law school, Channy graduated at the top of her class from Washington and Lee University, completing dual majors in Politics and Romance Languages, with concentrations in International Relations and Philosophy, and pursued extensive study abroad in Niger, Japan, Argentina, Morocco, and Spain. Living and studying across five continents taught Channy that law never operates in a vacuum. Every legal conflict is shaped by culture, language, religion, history, family structure, economic power, and differing understandings of duty, dignity, and justice. Her exposure to other societies, combined with her study of comparative and international law, taught her to question assumptions, listen before judging, and recognize that the same dispute may be experienced very differently by each person involved.

Those experiences gave Channy both a global perspective and a deeper respect for the individual human story. They trained her to examine a conflict from every direction: the governing law, the competing narratives, the distribution of power, the cultural and psychological forces beneath the surface, and the consequences legal systems too often fail to see. Today, that perspective enables her to represent clients from diverse backgrounds with cultural sensitivity while remaining uncompromising about the universal principles at the heart of her practice: the dignity of every human being, the exposure of coercion and abuse, the pursuit of truth and justice, and the protection of children.

Family law and criminal defense

Alongside her family-law practice, Channy maintains an active criminal-defense practice. She has represented criminal defendants throughout her legal career as a licensed California attorney, and that work remains an integral part of her independent practice. Criminal defense has sharpened Channy’s ability to investigate contested allegations, test the credibility and reliability of witnesses, identify inconsistencies concealed within persuasive narratives, and defend people facing accusations capable of permanently altering their freedom, reputation, families, and futures. It has also reinforced a principle central to every area of her practice: an allegation is not evidence, repetition does not transform a falsehood into truth, and no person should be condemned merely because the opposing story was told first—or told more loudly.

Her experience at the intersection of family and criminal law is particularly valuable when domestic-violence allegations, protective orders, child-abuse claims, law-enforcement investigations, or parallel proceedings place a client’s liberty and parental rights at risk simultaneously. Channy understands that statements made in one courtroom can reverberate through another. She therefore approaches these matters with the strategic coordination, evidentiary discipline, and constitutional vigilance their consequences demand.

Since beginning her California family-law practice in 2020, Channy has represented hundreds of clients in matters involving complex marital estates, business interests, mixed and separately characterized assets, breaches of fiduciary duty, financial exploitation, domestic violence, child abuse, parental alienation, jurisdictional disputes, prenuptial agreements, guardianship matters, and Marvin claims between unmarried partners.

How she practices

Channy is particularly skilled at entering cases that appear chaotic, damaged, or nearly beyond repair. She reconstructs complicated financial histories, follows transactions others have overlooked, identifies evidence buried within disorganized records, and separates provable fact from distortion, distraction, and noise. She does not accept hopelessness as a legal conclusion. She works tirelessly to bring order to disorder, expose the structure beneath apparent confusion, and build a path forward—one fact, one document, and one strategic decision at a time.

Her approach is both compassionate and unyielding. Channy believes conflict should never be manufactured for profit, leverage, or spectacle. When an honorable resolution can protect children, preserve resources, and allow families to begin rebuilding, she pursues it with sincerity and wisdom. But she does not confuse peace with surrender, civility with passivity, or mercy with permission to continue causing harm. When cooperation is answered with coercion, deception, intimidation, concealment, or calculated injury, Channy prepares relentlessly. She studies the record until she knows it completely. She identifies what the opposition hopes no one will notice. She asks the questions others have avoided. She pursues truth and accountability with the patience to build the case correctly and the resolve to carry it through.

To Channy, fearless advocacy is not theatrical aggression, reflexive hostility, or conflict pursued for profit. Channy understands the exhaustion of living inside a conflict that seems to invade every part of life. That understanding gives her unusual empathy for principled people trapped in destructive circumstances, and unusual resolve when confronting those who exploit fear, confusion, financial inequality, institutional indifference, or the vulnerability of children. She does not regard her clients as files to be processed. She sees the life behind the case, the child behind the custody dispute, the future behind the financial record, and the human being beneath the accusations.

Channy does not promise that the path will be easy, and she does not offer false certainty. What she offers is disciplined preparation, honest counsel, strategic judgment, and unwavering commitment. She listens carefully. She learns the case completely. She tells her clients the truth, including when the truth is difficult. She identifies what matters most and refuses to allow distraction, intimidation, or manufactured chaos to obscure it.
